Why Storks?
This is our little virtual Scissor Museum of unusual, rare, antique scissors.  We don't actually own these, nor do we have them to sell, we just wish we did....

Scissors were invented in Egypt about 1500BC and made of a single piece of metal (bronze).  About 100AD, the Romans improved on this design by having the blades cross each other..kind of like today's nippers.

Over time scissors evolved into separate blades with finger loops joined with a screw.  In 1761, an Englishman named Robert Hinchcliffe developed a method of casting steel scissors.

Today there are two methods of manufacturing scissors, casting and forged:

              - Casting is where steel is poured into a mold and cooled with a method called "ice tempering".  With casting, manufacturers are able to mass produce scissors at a lower cost.

              - Forged is where a mold is still used, however the hot steel is pounded into shape.  These scissors are mostly handcrafted requiring more time and skill than cast scissors and thus are more expensive. These are the scissors you want.
